Patient Communications Not Working

Patient Communications Not Working

1. Patient communications is not supported for USB connections and for Amplitude T-series audiometers.

2. If you are using internal Bluetooth, then the type of internal Bluetooth may not be compatible with Symphony. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to disable internal Bluetooth and install the Bluetooth adapter.

3. Ensure that the microphone jack and the headphone jack are properly inserted into your computer’s microphone jack and headphone jack. Insert the pink microphone connector into the pink microphone audio jack on the computer. Insert the green headset connector to the green headset audio jack on the computer. Please note that for some computers, pulling out the microphone and headphone jacks while an audiometer is connected in Symphony will cause an error and you will need to re-start Symphony. Disconnect the audiometer before removing the audio jacks.

4. Always connect the audiometer after attaching the operator headset to the computer.

5. If your computer has a single, combination microphone and headset jack, you will need to purchase an adapter for splitting the microphone and headset connections.

6. If you are using an external USB sound card for the operator headset, in lieu of an audio splitter, the external sound card must be set as the default playback device:

         a. Right-click on the speaker button on the Windows’ task bar and select Playback Devices:

         b. Click on your external sound card device.

         c. Click on the Set Default button, which will set external sound card as your default Playback device.

         d. Click on the Recording Devices tab to then set the external sound card as your default recording device.

7. Ensure that the volume of the default speaker is not muted or too low (Symphony uses the default speaker for patient communications):

         a. Right-click on the speaker button on the Windows’ task bar and select Open Volume Mixer:

         b. Unmute the default speaker and/or adjust the volume slider upwards until you can hear through the monitoring headset:

8. Ensure that the default playback/recording device is NOT set to the OTOPod.

         a. Right-click on the speaker button on the Windows’ task bar and select Playback Devices:

         b. Click on the correct speaker (i.e., built-in speaker, external sound card, etc.)

         c. Click on the Set Default button, which will set the speaker as your default Playback device.

         d. Click on the Recording Devices tab to change/set the default microphone.

9. Try disconnecting and then re-connecting the audiometer.

10. Try closing Symphony, unplugging the Bluetooth adapter from your computer, reinserting the Bluetooth Adapter, waiting for Windows to detect and install the adapter, re-opening Symphony, and then re-connecting the audiometer.
